IIT Madras has taken a significant step towards understanding and addressing critical transitions in complex systems with the establishment of the new Centre of Excellence (CoE-CTCS). Headed by Prof. R.I. Sujith from the Department of Aerospace Engineering, this pioneering center will focus on studying and predicting critical transitions in both natural and engineering systems.
The CoE-CTCS brings together researchers from various disciplines, including engineering and natural sciences, to explore the emergence of spatial and temporal ordered patterns that could potentially lead to catastrophic events. By gaining a deeper understanding of these transitions, the Centre aims to develop early warning technologies and implement intelligent control measures to mitigate their impacts. In addition to ensuring safety, the Centre also aims to foster the growth of product development and start-ups.
"This Centre of Excellence marks a significant milestone in our ongoing efforts to create a safer and more sustainable world," said Prof. R.I. Sujith. "By examining critical transitions in complex systems, we hope to contribute to the well-being of society as a whole."
The establishment of the CoE-CTCS is a testament to IIT Madras' commitment to cutting-edge research and innovation.
